I prayed the Lord for a chance to save a man’s soul,
He made me popular.
I prayed for a chance to help the less fortunate,
I won the lottery.
I prayed for a minister with cancer to get better,
He died in his sleep that night.
I prayed for a chance to know God better,
As I passed a church.
I prayed for a beautiful sight,
I ended up at home.
I prayed to find a good story,
But a Bible was all I could find.
The man’s soul was lost,
The poor went hungry,
The minister died,
I never knew God better,
I never saw a beautiful sight,
I never found a good story.
As I lay here on my death bed,
I pray one more thing.
That I know why God never answered my prayers.
But I never heard a reply
As I drifted silently away.

One from the vaults. From my more religious and optimistic days.

Interesting...to be sure...I've had issues like that before, always hard to put in faith when it seems nothing is going right...was there supposed to be such drastic irony in there?

...if only two thousand miles weren't so far.
Well, it is from a long time ago and I didn't bother revising. It could use a little more subtlety to be sure...

I know what that's like...I do like it though, you see the concept around a lot, but not often portrayed so truthfully, well done

Thank you, kind sir.

I apologise...It is dangerous to make assumptions, I guess...

No offense taken, just amusement

Very cool. I love the drastic irony myself. To hell with being subtle! lol
